The Future of Technology

Why don’t we have flying cars? because people won’t drive fly them? why don’t we have a fridge that goes shopping without us? because that would freak people out? Maybe a little.

I think it’s because Apple hasn’t made them yet. I read a very interesting article the other day about what paypal sees as the future of payment. A couple are walking down the street and see a animated movie poster. they touch the poster and a box comes up where they can order tickets. A man at a bar puts his drink down, the bar top shows a ring around his glass with a menu next to it to pay. Is this stuff to expensive? Why isn’t this stuff out there yet? or at least not in mass quantities.

I mentioned Apple before. Look what they did with the iPhone and iPod. They made a very expensive version but because they mass produced it they made enough money to keep going. They also made products so freaking cool they found people that would give their first born. now the iPhone is in it’s third generation and  you can get a 1st gen on the cheap. It’s like they say if you build it they will buy it. It’s more like if you make something people think they can’t live without they will find a way to get their hands on it. Maybe that only applies to Apple fanboys.

As much as I think Apple has gotten wrong with the iPhone (e.g. Exclusiveness to AT&T and the App Store approval process) at least they are still pushing the limits of what’s possible. Do other companies lack vision? take a look at Microsoft’s Vision. They are not blind. it looks even crazier then what paypal wants! For a long time I have had issues with Microsoft and I was all about Google and how cool all their products are. I see now what it means to be a fanboy. Now I see Google making mistakes or rather, things I don’t like. The user is always right. To which I would say, maybe I’m not the user they had in mind. Microsoft is coming back in a big way. I am learning now that no one company can do everything you love. You got to spread the love around.

I always though Microsoft used it’s power (read: Market Share) to force us to use the same crappy version of windows or other products like office and outlook (read: stupid damn ribbon, can’t find anything). Now I think Microsoft is still a kid but they are run by the corporations that buy their products. This is seen by the current IE6 issue. Microsoft wants it gone as much as the rest of us but they made promises to corporations saying they would support their products. The best part of Firefox is they can do what they want. Be careful because soon they could run into the same issues. Corporations who think it cost so much to upgrade. I thought everyone already knew it cost more not to upgrade. You are halting forward motion and I hate that. I want to live in the future.

24 hours from now is the future, lets act like it.
